Sona Arushanyan

Sona is from Seattle, WA and attended the University of Washington School of Pharmacy where she received her PharmD.  She is interested in oncology, ambulatory care, academia and becoming a well-rounded pharmacist. In her free time, she enjoys baking, exploring new coffee shops, hiking, hosting dinner gatherings and spending time with her family and friends.

Why I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics?
One of the things that stood out to me about Valley Medical Center & Clinics was the welcoming and supportive culture I experienced during my interview.

I was impressed by preceptors' passion for teaching and felt grateful to have an opportunity to learn from such knowledgeable mentors and follow their guidance throughout my residency. I knew  their mentorship, along with the supportive culture, would help me continue to grow and become well-rounded pharmacist. I also valued the program's flexibility and its personalized approach to supporting individual goals and areas of interest.

Sophia Chen

Sophia is from Renton, Washington and attended the University of Washington School of Pharmacy where she received her PharmD. Her primary area of interest is emergency medicine. In her free time, Sophia enjoys building legos, traveling, and trying new restaurants.

Why I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics?
I chose VMCC because of its supportive culture and the program’s focus on cultivating well-rounded pharmacy residents whilst providing opportunities to pursue individual interests through diverse clinical experiences. Furthermore, I value the emphasis on mentorship and the opportunities to build meaningful relationships with preceptors and members of the healthcare team. I recognized that by completing a residency at VMCC, I would be challenged to further develop my clinical knowledge while receiving the support needed to grow into a confident and independent pharmacist.

Teresa Rodriguez

Teresa Rodriguez is from Kent, Washington. She earned both her undergraduate physiology degree and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Washington. Her primary interests are ambulatory care and transitions of care. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, playing games on her Switch, and spending time with friends and family.

Why I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics?
I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics because I felt that the program was very supportive of its residents. The preceptors here truly care about training you to become a well-rounded pharmacist. I was also excited to experience a variety of rotations in both inpatient/acute care and ambulatory care. The free parking was a nice bonus, too!

Nikye Yonamine

Nikye Yonamine is from Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington where she received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Her professional interests include ambulatory care, with a particular interest in cardiology and diabetes. Outside of pharmacy, Nikye enjoys cooking and baking, exploring new coffee shops, and visiting farmers' markets. She also enjoys hosting dinner parties and surfing at the beach.

Why I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics?
I chose Valley Medical Center & Clinics because of the immediate warmth and genuine connection I felt with the preceptors and pharmacy team. I was drawn to the team’s commitment to creating a supportive and welcoming culture while still challenging residents to grow as clinicians. I also appreciated the opportunity to gain experience in both ambulatory care and acute care, which provides a breadth of experiences that can be difficult to find within a single residency program.
