Valley Receives Major Gift to Advance Cancer Care in South King County

6/1/2023

Renton, WA (June 1, 2023) -- Valley Medical Center is thrilled to announce the first major donation toward our future Cancer Center on our hospital campus in Renton. On June 1, our friends and partners at Valley Girls & Guys generously presented a check to Valley for $1.8 million. The donation will go toward Phase I of our Cancer Center, specifically toward an improved Infusion Center with 40% greater capacity.

“We wanted to be the forerunners in this,” said Valley Girls & Guys Founder Tina McDonough. “We wanted to be the people that said, ‘Yes, we're in for the long haul with Valley Medical Center.”

“This lead gift will be such an inspiration to others,” said Valley CEO Jeannine Erickson Grinnell. “The space it will create and the people it will touch, from patients and loved ones to providers and staff members, will leave an indelible legacy of care and hope.”

This project will be life changing for many patients in South King County. Recently we completed our comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment, which confirmed that cancer continues to be the leading cause of death in our hospital district.

We are seeing an increased need for comprehensive cancer services, as many delayed treatments and screenings during the pandemic. Many can’t afford to travel to Seattle for treatment, and even those who can are better served when they can get treatment closer to home.
