First new CEO in 37 years and first female CEO in Valley's history
We are very excited to announce Jeannine Grinnell has been named Chief Executive Officer at Valley Medical Center, Washington’s oldest and largest public district hospital serving the South King County community. Jeannine is Valley’s first new CEO in 37 years and the first female CEO in Valley’s history.
Jeannine is a 20-year veteran at Valley. She is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Hospital Administration degree. She rose through finance and treasury positions to serve as Chief Financial Officer and Superintendent of Public Hospital District No. 1. In January 2021 she was appointed Interim CEO after Rich Roodman announced his retirement.
“Jeannine has served with distinction in leadership roles at Valley Medical Center,” said Lisa Brandenburg, president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics, and University of Washington vice president for medical affairs. “With her appointment as CEO, the residents of South King County can be confident that Valley will continue to provide outstanding primary and specialty care at its hospital and clinics.”
Donna Russell, chair of the Board of Trustees, expressed her support, saying “Jeannine has thoroughly demonstrated her leadership strengths and resolve throughout the pandemic. She is a smart, accomplished leader who earns the respect and trust of everyone with whom she works.
“At Valley, our mission is ‘caring for our community like family’ and Jeannine embodies this in every way. She truly cares about helping people and is compassionate and committed to Valley and the residents of our community. Jeannine has successfully navigated Valley through some of the toughest times in healthcare with great empathy, decisiveness, integrity and courage,” lauded Jim Griggs, president of the Board of Commissioners.
When asked how she feels about her new role, Jeannine remarked:
“I am humbled by the opportunity and so proud of this organization. Like so many of our staff, I feel passionate about what we do and who we are: dedicated to taking care of our community like family. I am honored to have served this community for two decades, and to have been selected to lead Valley Medical Center and foster our incredibly special culture into the future.”
