Windstorm Update:
-Newcastle Primary Care, Fairwood Primary Care, and Newcastle Dermatology are CLOSED today (Friday 11/22). Power was restored this afternoon and these clinics plan to reopen Monday.
-All other clinics, including Maple Valley Urgent Care, are OPEN with appointments proceeding as scheduled.
-Our hospital is fully functional. The Emergency Department is extremely busy. Consider urgent care for non-emergent needs. Not sure if you need Emergency, Urgent, or Primary Care? Go to valleymed.org/where2go.
-We continue to experience high call volume. Cancel or reschedule online at mychart.valleymed.org. If you have an impacted appointment, your care team will contact you.

Creating Closed Loop Communication on Actionable Findings 

Valley Medical Center (VMC) uses the Nuance PowerConnect Mobile Clinician app to notify external clinicians about abnormal radiology results in a timely manner with closed loop communication. This tool streamlines communication, via a mobile phone or tablet, for ordering providers and radiologists.

Please note that this workflow will not change the way the full radiology report will route to outside providers. This message will be in addition to receiving the full report through fax. All message escalations will be paused during nighttime hours and, depending on the acuity, on weekends.

VMC Radiology Alerts Workflow


Message Entry
:
Radiologists will flag any actionable findings using this tool.

The radiologist will continue to contact an ordering provider with a phone call for critical life-threatening findings.


Notification:
Ordering provider is notified by an alert routed to the PowerConnect Mobile Clinician app.

Message Retrieval:
The ordering provider accesses a message   containing the impression text of the findings from the Radiologist who interpreted the study.

The system will alert the provider using the Nuance PowerConnect Mobile Clinician App. Ordering provider will then review and accept the message directly on the app.   

After three escalations, a “failsafe” procedure will be enacted.

  1. Nuance Support will try to reach the provider with the office number shared with us in the enrollment form below.
  2. Nuance Support will escalate the message to the Vantage Radiology team message queue.
  3. The Vantage team will escalate to compliance to follow up with the provider or their practice group.
