Jennifer Burzawa, MD, specializes in treating cancers that affect a woman’s reproductive tract, including uterine/endometrial cancer, ovarian/fallopian tube/primary peritoneal cancer, cervical cancer, as well as vulvar and vaginal cancer. She also treats women with preinvasive disease such as endometrial hyperplasia and well as cervical, vulvar and vaginal dysplasia. She also manages woman with adnexal (ovarian) mass that are suspicious for malignancy as well as risk-reducing surgery for woman at increased risk of developing malignancy secondary to hereditary syndromes.
The scope of her practice includes both surgical management of patients, including minimally invasive surgery (traditional laparoscopy as well as robotic surgery). Additionally, she manages chemotherapy for her patients when it is indicated. It is this continuity of care, being able to see patients from their initial diagnosis, through surgery and their subsequent treatment that fostered her love of gynecologic oncology. She strives to treat each patient individually and provide them reassurance and answers during these difficult times.
Dr. Burzawa was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Central Florida on the East Coast. She did her undergraduate studies at University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL where she was a biology major. She then completed her medical school training at University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, FL. She completed the Honors Program in Medicine, a joint BS/MD program in six years. She moved to Houston, Texas in 2004 where she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor School of Medicine. She then completed her fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She then stayed as a faculty member at MD Anderson where she has spent seven years as an assistant professor before relocating her family to the Seattle-area in 2019. Dr. Burzawa is a faculty member at University of Washington, and is board-certified in gynecologic oncology as well as obstetrics and gynecology.
Dr. Burzawa grew up on the beach in Florida where she enjoyed all water sports, most importantly swimming. She swam competitively during college at the University of Miami. She then moved to Texas for her residency training where she met her husband, a native Texan. They now have two young children. She has spent the last 14 years in Houston and was excited to relocate to Seattle where they hope to enjoy the cooler weather and all the outdoors has to offer with her family.
