Informatics Update: In Basket Message Expiration

As part of an ongoing effort to improve Epic performance and In Basket efficiency, Valley Medical Center is implementing the next phase of In Basket message cleanup.

Beginning January 20, all Epic In Basket messages older than 6 months will be automatically removed. This update aligns with Epic’s recommended best practices and is standard across many Epic organizations. While a setting change was implemented on July 15, 2025, to expire new messages after 6 months, this upcoming step will address older messages that predate that change.

What to know:

• All In Basket users are impacted
• Messages will display a warning 7 days prior to expiration
• Older messages can slow system performance and make it harder to manage new, time-sensitive items

What you should do:
Please make sure to review and clean up In Basket messages before they expire.
