Which conditions does the High-Risk Screening & Genetics clinic see?
Our providers see patients to discuss genetic testing for hereditary cancers, neurogenetic disorders, and cardiogenetic disorders. Our providers also follow and manage patients who are at high risk for breast cancers.
Hereditary Cancer/High Risk Screening Indications
Personal History of:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia
- Adrenal Cancer
- Ampullary Cancer
- Aplastic Anemia
- Atypical ducal hyperplasia of the breast
- Biliary Tract Cancer
- Brain Cancer
- Breast Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer
- Endometrial Cancer
- Gastric Cancer
- Keratocanthoma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome

- Ovarian Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Paraganglioma
- Parathyroid Adenoma
- Pheochromocytoma

Personal or Family History of:
- Aortic aneurysm under age 50
- Arrhythmia
- Ataxia
- Cardiomyopathy
- Dystonia
- Epilepsy
- Familial hypercholesterolemia
- Familial/Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension

- Familial or early-onset dementia
- Familial or early-onset Parkinson’s
- Hemiplegic migraine
- Leukodystrophy
- Multiple relatives with heart defects
- Neurocutaneous disorders
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Neuropathy
- Young onset strokes

What is offered at a High-Risk Screening & Genetics Appointment?
- Review of patient’s family history and personal medical history
- Discussion of different genetic testing options and types of results
- Detailed follow up for any positive or abnormal genetic test results
- Long term management for patients at high risk of breast cancer
What conditions do not have informative genetic testing available?
- Multifactorial conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, etc.
- Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hypermobility type
- Autoimmune disease (multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes, etc.)
