On April 22 we had a pipe elbow failure in our Emergency Department (ED) causing a significant water leak. Crews are assessing the impact and we are in the process of water abatement. Our ED is open, but several rooms are currently offline which could increase wait times. Some surgeries are also being rescheduled.
Return of Pooled Platelets to BWNW
Effective September 21, Bloodworks NW will bring back pooled platelets:
-5 whole blood derived platelet units pooled into one bag
-1 dose of pooled platelets will be comparable to 1 dose of apheresis platelets
BWNW will continue to make apheresis platelets
Ordering for LP: No change – LP will continue to order adult dose platelets
Epic Prepare Platelets, Adult Dose order Process Instructions will be revised to indicate that order will be filled with either Apheresis or Pooled Platelets
BWNW will issue units interchangeable depending on inventory availability
Scanning/transfusion/documentation for RN/Anesthesia, no change - same for both Apheresis and Pooled
