Valley is making changes to our password requirements, as part of our continued efforts to improve cybersecurity and keep personal information of our patients and staff safe.
Starting Monday, July 15, staff who are prompted to change their password will be required to create a new password that is at least 12 characters long. On Thursday, August 1, any employees who have not changed their password in the previous two weeks will be required to update it at the next log-on, following the updated requirements. Because these passwords will be stronger and more secure than under previous requirements, employees will now only be required to change their passwords once a year, instead of every 90 days.
Passwords must contain at least one upper case letter, lower case letter, number, and special character. For complete details on password requirements and restrictions, click here.
The chart below, from cybersecurity company Hive Systems, shows why this change is so important to helping protect our data and information—each additional character makes it stronger and takes hackers longer to figure out your password.
Thank you for your help in building excellent cybersecurity at Valley. If you have questions, please contact the IT Help Desk at ITHelp@valleymed.org.
