The Desimone Levee on the Green River failed and is under repair. The hospital is above the flood zone and currently in no danger of flooding. We evacuated our Time Square and Kent Station Clinics and our Lind Avenue locations. Several locations are experiencing staffing issues due to severe traffic impacts. Impacted patients are being contacted to reschedule appointments. Please be safe, do not drive or walk through standing water, and call 9-1-1 if you need emergency evacuation assistance.

Medication Access Training Expansion (MATE)

5/12/2023

The Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) was passed as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. It requires a one-time, 8-hour training “on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders” for DEA renewal. Exclusions are:

  • Board-certification in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry medicine
  • Graduated from medical, PA, ARNP school or residency within five years of June 27, 2023
  • Current or past X-waiver
  • Previous trainings offered by an approved organization

Deadline is prior to your next DEA renewal.

June and July 2023 expirations will not need to attest to the training until 2026. The first group of physicians and advanced practice providers this will affect are those with expiration dates of August 31, 2023 forward.

Patty Kyle will send medical staff a reminder of the training requirement 45 days prior to their DEA expiration. If you have met the training requirement simply answer, “I have met the training requirement” or any the following statements. Patty will attest for you to complete your DEA renewal. Please contact Patricia_Kyle@valleymed.org with any question.

  • I have/had an X-waiver
  • I graduated from my training program within the last 5 years
  • I have previous training from another institution.

Here are the links to the VIDEO and to the SLIDES from the May 10 Primary Care Provider meeting where Dr. Shannon Markegard summarized the above information.

Also included in the video and slides is an overview by Dr. Paul Wardrop about the current guidelines for using Suboxone for medication overuse disorder (MOUD), including patient consultations and transition of care within Valley Primary Care Clinics.
