Provider of the Month: April 2022
Dara Jolly, MD, Valley Family Medicine

Dr. Jolly is the model of what anyone would want in a personal physician. She is an effective listener and has an astute ability to understand what her patients need or are hoping to achieve. I always feel that she has the patient's needs at the forefront of all her medical decisions, even if she may come to a different decision medically.

As a faculty physician she reflects these same traits and skills. She has an uncanny ability to be able to understand the medical learners she is engaged with and teaching and bring out the best in them. She builds their confidence at the same time she outlines any areas where they need to improve.

And, as a faculty physician partner she quietly works to support her faculty partners in so many ways on a daily basis. She is the first to volunteer when a need is identified, and for me I always know that she will do the best for the training program in any way that she is able to, even if it means pointing out weaknesses in the teaching program that we need to address.

The VFM Residency, faculty, residents, clinic staff, and her patients are all so fortunate to have such a wonderful ally working with us.

Future of MEDEX Award - 2022
Mickey Kander, MSW, MPH, PA-C

The Future of MEDEX Award recognizes a MEDEX student who graduates from the program not only with a certificate in hand, but with the mission and values of MEDEX tucked deeply into the motivations for what they do and where they go from there as practicing PAs. In the case of Mickey Kander, we can say that he not only left MEDEX with these shared values intact, but he arrived with them as well.

Mickey Kander earned earlier degrees – a Bachelor of Social Work (1998) from Arizona State University, and Master of Social Work & Public Health (2003) from San Diego State University, and followed this with his years of work as a social worker both in California and Washington State before joining the MEDEX program and graduating with Seattle Class 48 in 2016.

Mickey was noted as having a reputation as a stellar, high energy, very friendly and deeply committed student and classmate. He was also recognized for his current work as as a practicing family medicine PA with Valley Medical Center, a family medicine locum tenens PA with Kaiser Permanente’s Orion Youth Center in Seattle, an engagement with the Alliance for Child Welfare Excellence, his volunteer work as a board member with the non-profit Guatemala Village Health, and his frequent in-network clinical consultation for opioid addiction and gender affirming treatment.
