Short-term Reactions Among Pregnant and Lactating Individuals in the First Wave of the COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout, JAMA Network Open, Aug. 17, 2021
Introduction: Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 are highly effective in preventing COVID-19 illness. Research has found that COVID-19 is associated with adverse events in pregnancy, and recommendations therefore include offering SARS-CoV-2 vaccines to pregnant and lactating individuals, despite their lack of inclusion in initial clinical trials. To date, limited data on vaccine and pregnancy outcomes exist for SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in pregnancy and lactation.6 The objective of this study was to investigate experiences of pregnant and lactating individuals after receiving COVID-19 vaccines.

Dr. Kachikis also was interviewed in an article for the LA Times, published Oct. 13, 2021. The article also includes interviews with UW Medicine colleagues, Linda Eckert, MD and Emily Fay, MD.
