UW Dept. of Family Medicine Research Excellence Award 2021
Jon Neher, MD, Valley Family Medicine
Jon Neher, MD, received the 2021 Research Excellence Award by the UW Department of Family Medicine. UW received 137 nominations highlighting fantastic contributions to the department by faculty and staff affiliated with the department currently or in the past; locally and across the WWAMI region. They noted that the quality of nominations was high, and his rose to the top! Here are some quotes from Dr. Neher’s colleagues who recognized his professionalism and achievements and nominated him for this well-deserved award for his excellence:
“Dr. Neher is recognized nationally for his research and work as Editor-in-Chief for the Evidence-Based Newsletter and Assistant Editor for the Family Practice Inquiries Network. He is known as the person who developed the idea of "The One Minute Preceptor". He has mentored dozens of Residents helping them publish in the AAFP journal and in other academic journals. He is a regular contributor of essays on the practice of Family Medicine to a number of National and Regional Medical Journals. He is a frequent presenter to colleagues on research methods and skills at STFM. Jon does this work humbly and in a matter of fact manner. He is a treasure for the UW Department of Family Medicine and to the Valley Family Medicine Residency burnishing the reputation of both.”

“Jon has many years of contributing to journals such as the STFM journal, early educational articles, and local and national presentations in the field of Family Medicine. Over the last 15 years Dr. Neher has been involved in increasing the number of family physicians contributing to publications in the area of evidence based medicine such as clinical inquiries. He continues currently working as editor of one of these journals. In his role as faculty he guides residents through the concepts of evaluation of medical literature/studies so as to create graduates who have skill at evaluating and interpreting medical literature after completion of their residency training. What I most admire about Jon is his sincere commitment to these concepts, to education of family medicine residents, and his depth of knowledge, and yet he does this quietly and humbly without singing his own praises or without need of accolades.
