August is National Breastfeeding Month and throughout the month, each week holds a special celebration of breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) occurs annually on the first week of August and represents a global celebration of breastfeeding efforts including breastfeeding promotion, support, education, research, progressive trends and normalizing breastfeeding as the gold standard of infant nutrition. Here at Valley Medical Center, as a Baby Friendly Hospital, we believe breastmilk is the optimal food for infants and support families at all stages to achieve breastfeeding success.

ALL families at Valley have access to lactation support through our great team of registered nurses and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). From prenatal visits to in-hospital care, as well as outpatient appointments, and telemedicine, we see patients 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Support isn’t only limited to those early days postpartum either, we see families throughout their entire breastfeeding journey. We can help with latching or feeding difficulties, pumping, breast or nipple pain, supply concerns, returning to work and more. Families do not need to be associated with Valley or the Birth Center to be seen in our office which is located just outside the birth center on the second floor.

Most insurance plans cover lactation consultant appointments. Referrals by a provider are NOT required; patients are welcome to schedule appointment directly by calling 425.228.3440 x2526.
