Valley has been following CDC guidelines for the number of days between dose 1 and dose 2 scheduling of the COVID-19 vaccine. For the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine this was 21 days and for Moderna this was 28 days. Due to vaccine supply shortages and varied shipping of each vaccine type from the government, we are now following new guidelines that the CDC released on Jan. 21, 2021. For both vaccine types we are now scheduling the second dose within 26-28 days after the first dose. This single scheduling window helps with consistent patient scheduling and lessens the need for appointment changes or cancellations. Also, if a patient is not able to be scheduled for their second dose within that window, it is okay to wait until 42 days (six weeks) after the first dose.
