Microsoft & Performance Partnership with Embold Health: Practitioner Performance Data

Author: Phil Chan, MD, MHA, Associate Medical Director, Population Health

Microsoft has launched an initiative to increase their employees’ access to data about regional medical care providers. Their goal is to provide information on the “effectiveness” and “appropriateness” of the care provided by individual physicians as one way to allow their employees to make more informed choices about their health care. To do this, Microsoft has engaged Embold Health to analyze de-identified patient data sets provided by Blue Health Intelligence® to evaluate performance at the provider level.

We were originally notified by Microsoft and Premera about this program in January 2020. We have now been notified that that a subset of Microsoft employees, limited to those living on the Eastside, will receive this information on or around June 16, 2020. This FAQ document gives more information about this program.

This program is an example of continuing work that uses claims data to report to patients or prospective patients on the performance of practitioners. It is not clear how many patients will choose to access this information. Starting May 19, 2020, Embold Health will offer practitioners the opportunity to see their own data. For more details, or to request for your individual report, see emboldhealth.com/physicians.
