    Biography

    Michael Burke, MD, FACS received his medical degree from Creighton University.  His General Surgery training was completed at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Northwestern University Affiliated Hospitals in Chicago.  He is a Board Certified surgeon and a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.  He is a member of Seattle Surgical Society and American College of Phlebology.  Dr. Burke has practiced at Valley Medical Center since 1984 and served numerous terms as Chief of Surgery at VMC. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and is proficient with the da Vinci robot. In 2010, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine named Dr. Burke a Top Doc.

    Dr. Burke is from a large Seattle family.  His wife Kim and his three children enjoy tennis, golf, skiing, and fishing.  Dr. Burke ran the Alaskan Iditarod trail in 2004-2005.

    Dr. Lau graduated cum laude from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with Honors.  He attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and graduated in 1991.  He subsequently completed his General Surgery residency in Portland, Oregon at the Legacy Emanuel/Kaiser Integrated Program.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

     

    In private practice in Renton since 1996, Dr. Lau transitioned to Southlake Clinic in 2013.  He is board-certified in General Surgery and has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery.  Dr. Lau’s practice also encompasses hernia, gastrointestinal, endocrine and thoracic procedures.

     

    In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lau has also been very active in medical staff affairs at Valley Medical Center.  He has served in various capacities, including Director of Trauma Services, Chief of Surgery and Medical Staff Chief.   Dr. Lau’s focus is compassionate, quality, surgical care at the patient level, as well as at the organizational level.

    Biography

    Dr. Tori McFall has been a member of the Medical Staff at Valley Medical Center since 1991.  Her surgical practice includes many aspects of general surgery with special interest in the surgical management of breast cancer and breast disease.  She is Board Certified in General Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  She is a recipient of the 2005 Champion for Life Award.  This award is presented annually by Valley Breast Center to recognize an individual who has provided excellent patient care or support. 

    Dr. McFall earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University.  She received her M.D. from The University of Utah in 1986.  She completed a five year general surgery residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1991.

    Biography

    Sherene Shalhub, MD (pronounced “shal-hoob”) is an Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Washington. Her practice includes the use of open surgical techniques as well as minimally invasive wire and catheter-based interventions for the treatment of vascular disease.

    Dr. Shalhub most recently served as an attending staff surgeon at the Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute in Texas Medical Center with a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  She earned her medical degree from the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa and then completed her general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle.  In addition, she completed a Master of Public Health degree at the University of South Florida and a postdoctoral trauma research fellowship at the University of Washington.

    Dr. Shalhub believes that the patient is the most important member of the healthcare team. Her patient’s goals are the center of focus in her clinical decision making.
