    Biography

    Michael Burke, MD, FACS received his medical degree from Creighton University.  His General Surgery training was completed at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Northwestern University Affiliated Hospitals in Chicago.  He is a Board Certified surgeon and a Fellow of American College of Surgeons.  He is a member of Seattle Surgical Society and American College of Phlebology.  Dr. Burke has practiced at Valley Medical Center since 1984 and served numerous terms as Chief of Surgery at VMC. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and is proficient with the da Vinci robot. In 2010, Seattle Metropolitan Magazine named Dr. Burke a Top Doc.

    Dr. Burke is from a large Seattle family.  His wife Kim and his three children enjoy tennis, golf, skiing, and fishing.  Dr. Burke ran the Alaskan Iditarod trail in 2004-2005.

    Biography

    Atreya Dash, MD, recevied his urology training at the University of Michigan and completed a three-year fellowship in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He served as Assistant Professor Chief of Urology Service at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, where his clinical research focused on prostate, bladder, kidney and testis cancers. His laboratory research has focused on molecular aspects of prostate and bladder cancer including application of microarray technology. His clinical and laboratory research have been published in peer reviewed publications.

    Dr. Dash has experience in all areas of urologic oncology such as the surgical treatment of prostate, renal, testis and bladder cancers with the use of continent urinary diversion for reconstruction after cystectomy. He uses the da Vinci® robotic system to perform laparoscopic operations including, radical prostatectomy, radical cystecomy, and partial nephrectomy.

    In 2002 Dr. Dash was awarded 2nd prize for best article by a trainee by the journal Urology. More recently, he received a 2007 ASCO Foundation Merit Award for his submission as a fellow to the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting.

    Dr Dash is an active member of the American Urological Association, The Society of Urologic Oncology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

    Biography

    Cindi Lewis, MD, joined Valley Medical Center team as a urogynecologist in July, 2013. She completed medical school at the University of Minnesota, and trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico. By her first year of residency, she realized her greatest interest and satisfaction gained was from helping women suffering from pelvic floor disorders improve their quality of life. So after residency, she remained at UNM for three additional years and completed the accredited Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Rogers.

    As a urogynecologist, Dr. Lewis enjoys working with patients to find the evidence-based approach that best fits their condition and personal needs, using surgical, non-surgical, behavioral/physical therapy and medical approaches. She believes patient education and trying to understand patient expectations are key components of their care.

    Dr. Lewis specializes in female pelvic floor medicine and reconstructive surgery (urogynecology), including:

    Dr. Rice is originally from San Diego, California. He has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology since 1981 and has lived in King County since 1990. He is both a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the International College of Surgeons. In addition to general obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Rice has a special interest in gynecological and urological surgery.     I endeavor to provide a holistic, thoughtful, and dedicated level of care to women with or at risk for gynecologic cancers and their families. As a gynecologic oncologist, I am fortunate to be in the unique position of being able to provide comprehensive, personalized care. Whether a condition calls for surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment, I aim to be the primary care provider for a woman's oncologic concerns. Having completed training in advanced surgical techniques (including robotic surgery), radical abdominal procedures, and cutting-edge research, my goal is to treat my patients with the most current, effective, and state-of-the-art treatment options available.

    My wife Jennifer and I enjoy living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with our three children. We are active and love the outdoors - hiking throughout the Northwest, spending time on Lake Washington whenever we can, and snowboarding here and in Colorado with Jennifer's family. I also enjoy playing and watching most sports, including basketball and tennis, and can regularly be found in basketball league or pick-up games.

    A native of New Jersey, Daniel Simon, MD, completed his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and received his medical doctorate from UMDNJ in Newark, NJ.     Biography

    A native of the midwest, Ron Swensen, MD, fell in love with the Pacific Northwest during a visit to Seattle while in college. He earned his medical degree degree from Loma Linda University and completed a Family Medicine Internship at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Stanford and a Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at Penn State (Hershey), before receiving Board Certification in 1998.   

    Dr. Swensen's career has included academic positions in Ob/Gyn Departments at Stanford, Loma Linda and the University of Washington, where he estimates that he has participated in training over 160 Ob/Gyn specialist physicians and many more medical students. Dr. Swensen also served as the Chairman of the Ob/Gyn Department at Loma Linda University. Under his leadership, the department achieved national ranking by US News and World Report. Dr. Swensen subsequently joined Valley Medical Center as Medical Director for Oncology Services. 

    Dr. Swensen's practice includes surgery, chemotherapy and long-terrm management of known or suspected cancer of the female reproductive tract.  He is trained in robotic and laparoscopic surgical procedures. 

    • Management of uterine cancers including robotic hysterectomy, BSO and node dissection for endometrial cancer, robotic radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer and treatment of pre-invasive disease
    • Management of ovarian masses including ovarian cancer debulking and staging and, surgery for suspicious adnexal masses, and management of recurrent disease
    • Chemotherapy for ovarian and other gynecologic cancers
    • Risk reducing surgery for women at high risk of ovarian cancer
    • Concurrent hysterectomy during treatment of colorectal cancer (when indicated)
    • Management of vulvar cancer including vulvar biopsy for vulvar dysplasia or cancer and vulvar wide local excision or vulvectomy for vulvar cancer
    • Management of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease including molar pregnancy and choriocarcinoma

    Dr. Swensen's personal passions revolve around enjoying the extraordinary natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest together with his wife and three teenage children, and singing in a community vocal ensemble.
