SEATTLE, WA - UW Medicine has appointed the three final members to Valley Medical Center’s (VMC) new board of trustees. Gary Kohlwes, Don Jacobson and Beverly Fletcher were appointed to serve effective immediately. As part of the strategic alliance formed July 1 between UW Medicine and Valley Medical Center, the new board of trustees provides oversight for Valley Medical Center and its clinics.
“The three final appointees to the Valley Medical Center Board bring a great depth of knowledge and passion for improving the health of the community,” said Dr. Paul G. Ramsey, chief executive officer, UW Medicine. “All have served the south King County community through their volunteer efforts and we all look forward to having them join the newly configured Valley Medical Center board.”
Gary Kohlwes has been an avid supporter of Valley Medical Center and served as a Commissioner of the Valley Medical Center Board from 1995 – 2007. He has been involved in the Valley community for over 40 years as a school psychologist, Renton School District Superintendent and a member of the Renton Chamber of Commerce. He has served as Director of First Savings Bank since 1977, helped establish First Financial Center in Renton, and is on the Board of the First Financial Foundation.
Don Jacobson served as a Commissioner of the Valley Medical Center Board for 18 years. His professional experience in construction proved to be a very valuable asset during VMC expansions. Jacobson has served on the Renton Library Board, Renton Planning Commission, Renton School District Board and is a member of the Renton Rotary. In 1993, he received the Renton Citizen of the Year award.
Beverly Fletcher has long worked to improve the health and welfare of children in need. Now retired, she worked in strategic and business planning for the Weyerhaeuser Company. Fletcher has held many volunteer positions such as director of the Seattle Aquarium Society, member of the Senior Housing Development Council of the Mount Zion Baptist Church and a chairperson of the Landscape Lake Washington Ridge Development Homeowner Association.
“We feel fortunate to have Beverly, Don and Gary join us on the Valley Board,” said Lisa Jensen, chair, board of trustees, Valley Medical Center. “Their lifelong commitment to Renton and south King County will ensure that Valley continues to meet the needs of the community.”
