Mayor Denis Law and Toni Nelson, former City Council member and Renton Farmers Market founder, rang in the 10th Market season minutes before Tuesday's afternoon rain shower.
More than 250 market-goers attended the opening ceremony before mingling among the 55-plus vendors.
The sudden downpour did not damped the spirits of the attendees, who continued to shop and dine at the outdoor market.
Several members of the Renton Police Department's Downtown Enforcement Team (DET) joined the crowd on bike. DET recently grew in size from six to nine officers as part of the City's new downtown safety initiative that formally began on June 1.
Valley Medical Center, in partnership with the City of Renton, will host a second market this year. It'll take place on Sundays from June 12 through September 18 from noon to 4 p.m. off Talbot Road in the parking lot adjacent to the Talbot Professional Center at 4011 Talbot Road South.
The Renton Farmers Market will continue through September 27.
